Next Meeting: Tuesday, July 9, 2024
The Montgomery County Coin Club will meet Tuesday, July 9th, 2024 (tomorrow), at 7 p.m. at the Margaret Schweinhaut Senior Center, 1000 Forest Glen Road, Silver Spring.

The Gaithersburg, Community Museum held “Money Day” on Saturday, April 27, in conjunction with the public reveal and display of their recently acquired 1902 $10 National banknote of the First National Bank of Gaithersburg. An MCCC contribution to the museum assisted in the acquisition. MCCC was on-hand on Money Day with a 3-table display of numismatic collectibles and hobby information. MCCC President Jack Schadegg will give a brief photo-augmented talk and commentary on the day’s activities and public outreach engagements.
June Program – Felines on Banknotes

For our June meeting, Simcha Kuritzky delivered a PowerPoint presentation on, and brought examples of, banknotes from around the world featuring various felines.

The door prizes were a 1948 silver Venezuela ¼ bolivar, a Sweden 1950 25 ore, and a 1916 Great Britain penny. The raffle prize was a 1995 Special Olympics commemorative Silver dollar.

June Member Displays

Simcha Kuritzky showed several banknotes depicting felines. Every example from the night’s talk were shown, plus a few more.

Jerry Grzenda showed a collection of 2000 Sydney Olympics coins including five dollar silver proofs as well as some $100 gold pieces. He also showed his recent purchase of his oldest “German” coin – a bronze Roman follis issued under Maximinus and struck in what is now part of Germany.

Andrew Luck showed a collection of four 40% silver Kennedy half dollars which were all significantly off-center while still showing the date. Each piece was in an NGC slab.

Thanks to Mary Robertson for providing a delicious and abundant selection of refreshments.
