Next Meeting: Tuesday, December 10, 2024
The Montgomery County Coin Club will meet Tuesday, December 10th, 2024 (tomorrow), at 7 p.m. at the Margaret Schweinhaut Senior Center, 1000 Forest Glen Road, Silver Spring.
Instead of an educational program, our December meeting always consists of our donated auction. The auction will be in honor of Scott Barman, and proceeds will go to the Montgomery County Humane Society. The auction will be split into two sessions, with a refreshment break halfway through.
November Program – Coin Grading
For our November meeting, Erik Douglas gave a presentation on the Sheldon coin grading scale, using the PCGS photograde guide as well as actual coins to demonstrate how to identify different grades.
The door prizes were a fantasy Washington DC quarter, a 1958 Guatemala silver 5 centavos, and a silver Yugoslavia 10 dinara. The raffle prize was a Cook Islands silver 1/2 ounce coin.
November Member Displays
- Simcha Kuritzky: A Thomason medallic bible. The medals were Franklin Mint retrikes of original medals from the 1830s.
- Steve Ferguson: A item from the Bank of Korea museum: His own face printed on Korean Banknotes.
- Jerry Grzenda: A Harrison Tippencanoe Club banner/ribbon.
Thanks to Mary Robertson for providing a delicious and abundant selection of refreshments.
Ken Swab performed auctioneering duties.
