Next Meeting – Tuesday, November 10, 2026 at Aspen Hill Library – Greg Bennick on 19th Century U. S. Counterstamps

The Montgomery County Coin Club will meet Tuesday, November 10, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. at the Aspen Hill Library. The address is 4407 Aspen Hill Road, Rockville, MD, 20853. NOTE THAT THIS IS A NEW LOCATION! We no longer meet at the Scheinhaut Senior Center. Meetings are open to members and non-members alike.

Greg Bennick will give a presentation on 19th century merchant and political counterstamps on US coins. Bennick is a numismatist and collector of error coins, a practice he began when he was 10 years old. He discovered a mated pair of uncirculated 1867 Shield nickels, which were under-described in auction as a lesser error type. He serves on the board of the Combined Organization of Numismatic Error Collectors of America (CONECA).

In addition to the program, there will be a monthly auction consisting of a mix of U.S. and foreign coins, as well as other interesting numismatic items. Anyone in attendance may bid on the lots. Members will receive the auction list with their monthly bulletin. Non-members may bid on lots, but only members may submit items for auction. Searchable results for auctions from 2022 to the present are available on the website under the “Auctions” tab.

As always, snacks will be available.
