From MCCC President Don Stepida:
Rest assured that I have your health and welfare as my first priority in considering whether to hold Tuesday’s meeting or cancel it. I have just gotten off the phone with the Montgomery County Department of Health. At this point the county is not closing the senior centers. They do recommend that if the event can be postponed to do so (we would have to cancel). Community spread of the virus is of the highest concern, although none has been documented to date. We don’t want to be in a situation where we would have to self quarantine for 14 days.
The governor is advising people over the age of 60 to stay home as much as possible and avoid large crowds and gatherings. Although social distancing is encouraged, there is no published recommendation (ban) to cancel public/social meetings as I write this.
Therefore, the meeting will be held as scheduled.
- No food will be served
- Social distancing of 6 feet
- Proper hand washing
- if you feel ill-recover at home
I urge all members to consider their own personal situation when deciding whether to attend the meeting.
This is a fluid situation, as we are all aware, and new information may change my decision. The county is providing another update tomorrow morning.
You will only receive another commination if the meeting is cancelled.
