Leprosy is a disfiguring disease endemic throughout the world. As early as the Middle Ages, leper colonies were formed and various currencies were created to reduce the spread of infection. Dr. Solano’s presentation will discuss the basic biology of the disease, the nature of the colonies, and the coins and currency utilized therein.
