Next Meeting: October 11, 2011 — Our October meeting will feature numismatic author, researcher Roger Burdette talking about “Golden Boat—USS Trout’s Second War Patrol.” The submarine USS Trout ran a Japanese blockade of Corregidor Island in early 1942 to delliver vital war materials. When she left the island, she carried 6.2 tons of gold pulled out of Manila just before the Japanese captured the city. Roger’s presentation comes from new research results presented in his forthcoming book National Gold. Roger is a three-time winner of the Numismatic Litterary Guild Book of the Year Award the three volumes of his Renaissance of American Coinage series. Come hear what he has learned researching the dusty files from the U.S. Archives.
